Dr Sattar Bawany is an entrepreneur, executive
coach, international business executive, and an educator with over
25 years experience, including 15 years with leading management
consulting firms in the area of organisational effectiveness, human
resource management and executive coaching & strategic leadership
development. In addition to his business and consulting career, Dr
Bawany has over 15 years of concurrent academic experience as an
Adjunct Professor & Senior Faculty teaching senior managers and
professionals’ business strategies, entrepreneurship, international
business, and human resource courses at various leading
universities.
He is the Adjunct Professor of Business Strategy from the Paris
Graduate School of Management (PGSM) and the Honorary Academic
Advisor of International Professional Managers’ Association (IPMA).
Dr. Bawany is currently the Head of the Transition Coaching Practice
of DBM Asia Pacific. As a member of the DBM Asia Pacific Leadership
team, he is responsible for managing business development
initiatives and executive coaching projects in the region.
He was an accredited Chair & Executive Coach of TEC International,
the largest professional organization for CEOs worldwide. Dr Bawany
has coached a range of leaders, from CEOs, to senior vice
presidents, and high potential managers. His current work in
organisations focuses on encouraging individual initiative and
leadership from a systemic perspective in order to achieve clearly
defined business results. His specialty is effectively linking
people processes to business outcomes.
Prior to joining DBM, he was the Head of Mercer’s Global Information
Services Business Unit and Asia Pacific Monitor Program. The Asia
Pacific Monitor’s Intellectual Capital Exchange (ICEX) program
provides members with strategic and operational human resources
information spanning 15 countries in the Asia Pacific region. Prior
to joining Mercer, Dr Bawany was the Senior Director of Forum
Corporation (global leader in leadership and customer experience)
responsible for managing the client relationships for Forum’s
strategic global accounts. Dr Bawany has also previously assumed the
role as the Head of Hay Learning Services Asia Business Unit of Hay
Management Consultants (The Hay Group). He was also then
concurrently assumed the role as Senior Consultant of Hay’s
Emotional Intelligence (EI) & Leadership Practice.
Prior to being in the consulting and professional services industry,
Dr Bawany consolidated a successful career in business development,
marketing and general management. He has an extensive practical
background with more than 20 years experience in sales and marketing
for consumer and industrial market segments for several industries
in the private and public sectors. During this period of time, he
had assumed various senior sales and marketing management as well as
general management positions with several leading global
organisations. His key responsibilities then include the formulation
and implementation of strategic business and marketing plans for the
Asia-Pacific Rim markets. He had received numerous commendations and
awards for his outstanding sales and marketing achievements.
He is regular speaker at international and regional Conferences,
Workshops and Seminars on Strategic Human Resource Management,
Talent Management & Succession Planning and Executive Leadership
Development. His articles on HR, Career Management and Talent
Management including Executive Coaching have been published
frequently in the ‘The Straits’ Times’, CCH ‘AsiaSTAFF’ publication;
Singapore Management Institute’s (SIM) “Today’s Manager” magazine
and Singapore Human Resources Institute’s (SHRI) ‘Human Capital’
magazine. He has also appeared regularly on MediaCorp’s Radio’s
93.8FM Live as a studio guest.
Dr Bawany has trained and consulted for global and regional
corporations from various industries in the private sector such as
Nokia, Caltex (ChevronTexaco), Philips, Starwood Hotels & Resorts,
Schneider Electric, KLM-Airfrance, Borealis-Borouge, DELL,
AstraZeneca, Mastercard; CitiGroup; DBS Bank;Tyco; GE; ExxonMobil,
StarHub, Celcom, Cap Gemini, Petronas and also in the public sector
such as Singapore’s Prime Minister Office & Civil Service College (CSC),
ASEAN-EC Management Centre (AEMC), Asia Strategy & Leadership
Institute (ASLI), MINDEF Centre of Management Development (MCMD) and
others.
He is a Fellow and Member of the Academic Board of The International
Professional Managers Association (IPMA) in UK. He is also a Fellow
of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and founding member of
the Marketing Council Asia (MCA). Dr Bawany is a member of various
professional institutions including the American Management
Association (AMA) and the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM)
in the US. He is also a Member of the Marketing Institute of
Singapore and the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), Singapore
Training & Development Association (STADA), Management Development
Institute of Singapore (MDIS), Marketing Institute of Singapore
(MIS) and the Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI). He is also
a Practicing Member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF)
and International Association of Coaches (IAC).
Dr Bawany obtained his Ph.D. degree from Preston University,
Cheyenne, Wyoming and his doctoral thesis was on “Key Success
Factors in Developing a Knowledge Driven Learning Organisation in
the New Economy”. He also holds an Executive Masters in Business
Administration Degree from Golden Gate University, San Francisco,
California; as well as Bachelors in Business Degree (Marketing
Major) from Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia.
Dr Bawany is highly regarded for his practical "how to" approach,
and for his ability to communicate with his audiences and to make
learning fun and a pleasurable experience.
